Foundation President Awarded Otis A. Corbitt Leadership and Community Service Award
Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina President Tom Keith, was awarded the Otis A. Corbitt Leadership and Community Service Award at the 35th Annual Cross Cultural Mental Health and Human Services Conference in Myrtle Beach this March 2, 2013. The award is given for exemplary leadership in Human Services, Community Development and Education.

Foundation announces release of a Research Brief about Latino immigrant families in SC
The Sisters of Charity Foundation is announcing the release of a Research Brief about Latino immigrant families in South Carolina. Statistics show that the Latino population in the state continues to grow significantly. The population grew from 95,076 in the 2000 census to 235,682 in the 2010 census which represents a 148% increase. The research brief, authored by Foundation Senior Research Director Dr. Stephanie Cooper-Lewter, addresses a broad range of issues and challenges facing the Latino population including health, education, economic hardship, family structure and legal matters. “The growth in Latino families has a significant effect on both rural and urban South Carolina” said Tom Keith, Foundation President. “This brief takes an in depth look at the obstacles individuals and families face every day.”

From its inception in 2000 and its first grants in 2003, the Bunnelle Foundation has invested $15 million in improving the quality of life for Georgetown County citizens to achieve the vision of a community where the hopelessness of poverty has been transformed into opportunities for safe, healthy, and sustainable living. Through grants, opportunities for networking and collaboration, and learning opportunities in best practices and leadership the Foundation helps build the capacity of local nonprofit and community organizations to meet  citizens’ needs. This year the Foundation begins a yearlong strategic planning initiative to enhance its support of local nonprofit and community organizations.
